The article "The organs of Cavaillé-Coll (1811-1899) in Chile" Professor Miguel Castillo It is located on the General Index page of this website.
Of the ten instruments that, according to the catalog that appears in the biography of the French artist written by his sons, were built for Chile, only seven have been able to be located.

Editor's Note: To date, all ten have been located, thanks to the research of Dr Luis González

The largest (in Europe it would, naturally, be medium-sized) and the first for which there is documentation is the organ of the Church of the French Fathers, in Valparaíso, manufactured in 1871 and installed in 1872; and the smallest and the last in certain chronological documentation is that of the Chapel of San Pedro, of the current Provincial House of the Good Shepherd, manufactured and assembled in 1894.   more...

In addition to the organ of the French Fathers of Valparaíso, two other instruments are missing. installed in the capital.

Therefore, their descriptions do not appear in the book Órganos de Santiago. A true jewel of organ art is the instrument of the French Fathers. It has been preserved for 127 years, surviving several earthquakes, among which the largest were those of 1906 and 1971, which caused serious damage to the temple.

Its acquisition was possible thanks to a donation from engineer Enrique Meiggs, a fact that is recorded on the façade of the organ, behind the console.

A document of great interest is preserved, the autograph of Cavaillé-Coll, which consists of an instruction for assembling the instrument, as well as for its harmonization and tuning, accompanied by several sketches and drawings:
Notice explanatory for the montage of the orchestra of Valparaiso (Chili),
dated Paris April 5, 187216.

The various parts of the large and complex construction that constitutes the instrument are detailed here. as a whole, with which we form an idea of ??the balanced conception architectural approach of the builder, always at the service of an artistic concept, whose results continue to be admired throughout the world.
