HISTORICAL NOTES ON THE ORGAN OF THE PARISH OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES OF VIÑA DEL MAR. PASSIONIST PARENTS.

These notes are taken from the History of the Province of the Most Precious Blood of the Passionist Fathers, pastoral leaders of the Sanctuary and Parish, published in 1952.

On February 26, 1921, the Apostolic Nuncio Mons. Benito Aloisi Masella, later Nuncio in Brasio, and today cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, solemnly blessed the organ of our church, brought from Germany, assembled and improved by the organ builder Orestes Carlini.

Days later - February 23 - the Prince of Bavaria carefully visited the convent, the church and the orchard. Don Fernando of Bavaria. The prince admired the organ and wanted to experiment with it by playing it for a short time.

In 1933 improvements to the church organ began. Under the direction of the organ builder Mr. Carlini The front was renovated, adding two lateral sections and many new registers.

Our mechanical expert, Brother Santiago de los Dolores, introduced other important improvements with a free combination, original of its invention and special construction, plus several buttons to override and changing registers, and a singular crescendo, which has attracted a lot of attention.

This magnificent organ, with two keyboards and a pedal, became the delight of the notable musician and composer. Mr. Rea Hanna, consul general of Panama in Valparaíso, who, although of Protestant religion, did not hesitate to solemnize the frequent religious functions of our church with inspired harmonies that came from this king of musical instruments.

RESTORATION of JOHN MOIR

In the sanctuary of the Passionist Fathers of Agua Santa, Fifth region, John Moir also created a symphonic aesthetic “à la Cavaille-Coll”. This instrument, one of Carlini's largest, originally had 17 registers and 943 pipes. In the 1930s, Carlini himself, who died in 1938, expanded it to 24 registers, with 1,258 pipes in total. Moir in turn increased it to 26 registers, with a total of 1,445 pipes in its 31 rows (With the Trumpet attached to the pedal board, this sum would be 1,472 pipes). The work was completed in 1977 and the Organ was inaugurated on Friday, September 30 of that same year. by Dr Luis González Catalán, affected the night before by a terrible biliary colic.
